{"exhibit":{"id":36,"title":"Cowling Recreation Center","description":"<p>The Cowling Recreation Center was designed and built in 1964 by Minoru Yamasaki, the designer of 5 other campus buildings, including Watson Hall and the West Gymnasium. Yamasaki recieved an honorary degree in 1967 and is also known for his work designing the World Trade Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was initially used as the women's recreation center and is located across from Margaret Evans Hall, most commonly refered to as \"Evans\" by students today.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of construction it contained\u00a0offices, a classroom, a<br \/>student lounge, and a recreation room on its east side. The east basement contained areas to practice golf, tennis, and archery. On the west side, facing Bell Field, there was locker room and a pool in the west basement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today Cowling is used for PE classes such as ballroom dance, yoga, and step aerobics, as well as club sports and general recreation.\u00a0<\/p>","credits":"Spencer Lekki","featured":1,"public":1,"theme":"","theme_options":null,"slug":"cowling","added":"2020-01-28 20:09:13","modified":"2023-04-19 14:46:22","owner_id":35,"use_summary_page":0,"cover_image_file_id":606},"item":{"id":1314,"item_type_id":6,"collection_id":7,"featured":0,"public":1,"added":"2020-02-13 18:30:45","modified":"2020-03-09 19:45:09","owner_id":35}}
