{"exhibit":{"id":38,"title":"Laird Hall","description":"<p>Construction on Laird Hall began in 1905 in the location where Carleton's first observatory used to sit. William H. Laird donated $100,000, at that point the largest gift Carleton had ever received, for the naming and construction of the building, which was finished on the 40th anniversy of the college in 1906. It was designed by Bertrand and Chamberlin and built by H. N. Leighton &amp; Co.<\/p>\n<p>On its dedication, a box was placed in the cornerstone of Laird including various objects including a Bible, a history of Carleton, and various other documents.
