A Brief History of Gould Library

Gould Library opened in May 1956 after approximately two years of construction. The new library replaced Scoville Library, whose building was renamed Scoville Hall after resources were transferred and would become the building to host Admissions and the Financial Aid offices. The library was rededicated in 1996 in honor of former Carleton president Laurence McKinley Gould, who was in office during the initial opening of the library and who passed in 1995.
